Audiology & Hearing Aids

Restoring hearing loss improves your quality of life. You deserve to hear what you’re missing.

You deserve to hear what you’re missing

Hearing loss can happen at any age for a variety of reasons. And although you might consider some hearing loss as inevitable as you age, you should never take hearing loss for granted and leave it untreated. Baker ENT provides full audiology services from diagnosis to treatment. We can fit you with appropriate hearing aids, which we service and repair.

Hearing instruments include:

Bone Anchored Hearing Devices (BAHA)

Baker offers bone-anchored hearing aids for those patients who have conductive hearing loss, single-sided hearing loss, and/or mixed hearing loss and who can’t otherwise wear behind the ear or in the ear aids.

Cochlear implants

For those patients who have been diagnosed with sensorineural hearing loss, Baker ENT provides cochlear implants. Implants are most effective for those whose hearing loss is severe to profound.

Bluetooth hearing aid accessories

Some patients will appreciate having an adapter that facilitates the use of Bluetooth devices, such as a cell phone.

Custom ear molds to protect your hearing

Whether your job subjects you to excessive noise that can potentially damage your hearing or your child needs to keep her ears dry in the swimming pool, Baker ENT can provide custom ear molds.

Diagnosis

Baker ENT offers comprehensive hearing evaluations and screening for both children and adults.

We typically begin with a diagnostic audiogram, commonly referred to as a hearing test. The patient wears headphones or insert earphones and listens to sounds at different frequencies and volume to determine the quality of hearing in each ear.

Because there are different reasons behind hearing loss, audiometry tests are designed to determine whether your hearing loss is sensorineural (indicating damage to the nerve or cochlea) or conductive (indicating damage to the eardrum or bones of the middle ear). Hearing nerve function testing is essential in helping us determine the appropriate treatment of your hearing loss.

Treatment

Once you have received a comprehensive evaluation and diagnosis, Baker ENT can assist you with finding the best hearing instrument for you.

Hearing aids are available in three basic styles:

• Behind the ear (BTE). These aids consist of two parts. The exterior part serves as a microphone and amplifier which then delivers the sound through a tube or mold in the ear canal. This is the most common type of hearing aid and works well for individuals with mild to profound hearing loss.
• In the ear (ITE). These hearing aids are small enough to fit inside the outer ear, and they are appropriate for mild to severe hearing loss.
• In the canal. These are the smallest type of hearing aid. Because of their small size they work best for individuals whose hearing loss is mild to moderate.

It’s important to take care of your hearing as part of your overall health. At the first sign that you aren’t hearing as well as you should, contact Baker ENT for an appointment. The sooner we diagnose what’s wrong, the sooner we can address the issue. Addressing your hearing loss can improve your quality of life. You deserve to hear what you’re missing.
